TRACKWIRED POWER RANKINGS: 1-24-18
Which state in the U.S. has the best high school track and field? This question is often debated and now Trackwired has the answer! We have taken the top performer in every event, in every state, and created our Trackwired power ranking system. This power ranking takes every state's top performances into account across all events groups including, distance, middle distance, sprints, jumps, hurdles and throws. It's early in the year so we only calculated states that have at least 10 verified event marks. In the inaugural rankings the two states on top are NEW YORK on the GIRLS side and PENNSYLVANIA on the boys side. In fact the Northeast Region of the USA has 5 of the top 10 ranked states in both the girls and boys rankings.
The state of New York seems pretty well balanced across all of the events, but the mark that put The Empire State ahead of Texas was the high school indoor 5k national record by Katelyn Tuohy! Her staggering 15:37 5k at Liberty University was by far the highest scoring performance in this weeks rankings. It will be interesting to see if anyone in Texas will step up in the coming weeks to help the southern powerhouse state sit in the top spot.
On the boys side the margin is a little larger with Pennsylvania in the driver’s seat for now. Leading the charge with the highest indexing mark in the state is Josh Hoey in the 1k. The senior from Bishop Shanahan High School has laid down an early mark of 2:24.54 to throw down the gauntlet and give his home state an early season lead over the balanced attack from Ohio.
Check out our Trackwired power ranking next week to see which states will have bragging rights for this already impressive indoor high school campaign.
